Martha Gellhorn: Not A Footnote In Someone Else’s Life!

How do you step out of the shadows when you fall in love with someone like Ernest Hemingway? It seems everyone has heard of Ernest, but did you know he stole Martha’s plane ticket to World War II?! Of course, her husband failed at keeping her away from the front line.

Martha wanted to be present to record the truth. To tell of the suffering of war and what happened to the people. “Because if you are silent they can rewrite it anyway they want.”

She was more than simply a writer and a reporter. She was someone who cared deeply for humanity and often loudly asked why places like the US spent so much money on war instead of spending it on helping the poor.

Martha Gellhorn was more than a footnote in someone’s sad love story. She was a pioneer reporting for truth and justice.
