The Me of 22

I see the way you look at me
When I speak to you.
But if you only knew~
The me of twenty-two.
My eyes were blue
My hair was too.
Men flocked to me
Like sailors to a siren’s song.
But I know all you see now
Is the grey in my crown
And the heft of my thighs~
The perpetual sadness in my eyes.
But if you only knew~
The me of twenty-two.
You wouldn’t doubt her worth
Or make smug smirks.
You would welcome her attention
And be tickled that she even mentioned
That she knew of you.
