Hildegard of Bingen: A Jack of All Trades

Hildegard of Bingen: A Jack of All Trades

Almost exactly 800 years before I was born, having only missed my birthday by one day, an incredible woman died.  Hildegard was noted to be well versed in man things such as music, medicine, and theology.  She was also noted to be a mystic.  She said things such as the natural world offering proof and glory to God.  Apparently, for many noble, intelligent, and outspoken ladies, a life in the monastery gave them more freedom than getting married.  In researching her I found she had some pretty radical ideas:  human beings are the pinnacle of God’s creation and the natural world exists in harmony with humanity; humans should care for nature and nature will do the same. 1

I could go on about her, but there are literally so many cool things about this woman that I would suggest taking the time to scan some information for yourself.
